Kelvin Sampson gets his second top 10 player in Texas in Jojo Tugler

A year ago Jojo Tugler was on the “2nd team” of the Houston Defenders. A raw, athletic, shot blocker, he was just beginning to turn the corner in his development. Fast forward 365 days and OTR Exposure’s 2nd player in the greater Houston area, and top 10 player in the state of Texas, Tugler has committed to perennial powerhouse, University of Houston.

“It means so much to me to have my people see me play. It’s right here in my city, with my family and friends. Being around people I love. I chose to commit to UH because it’s a family atmosphere, from the coaches, to the players, to the support staff. It really felt like home.”

The 6’8 Cy Falls high school star has blossomed into one of the better prospects in the country. He has really worked on his game and really improved his stock. With Tulsa, SMU, Xavier, and Texas all making a push, he made his pledge to the Cougars.

“Yeah my growth this past year was crazy. Coach Flores at Cy Falls challenged me to get better and that was a big deal for me. This season at high school we went 33-4, winning the district championship. But for me it started with me being in the gym and the weight room.”

With the success the University of Houston program has had as a team and with their front court players, Tugler is a natural fit. He has been playing summer ball with the Houston Hoops and has high hopes for the rest of this season and his upcoming senior year.

“Now that I’ve committed, my goals are to keep getting better, and win the Nike Peach Jam. And in high school, I want to win district again and go win the state championship”.
