Houston Fall GASO Standouts

Saturday at the MI3 Center there were several good matchups and players that performed well. This will be many of the teams’ last event before the HS season starts. Here are some of the standout performers.

23 PG Trevor Lombard- (Strake Jesuit)- Has gotten so comfortable attacking the rim. Broke his defender down several times to get to the paint for east scores. His confidence is oozing in his play, scored 20 points in a win vs Astascocita and 15 in the game vs Elkins. We counted in heavily this year for Strake.

‘23 G Misaias Herrera- (Katy Jordan HS)– He’s been hotter than an old southern Baptist church in’s the summer this fall. Went 7-12 from 3 in a win vs Legacy School en route to 27 points along with 4 assists. Also went crazy against Eisenhower going 10-15 from 3, and scored 32 in that contest! Maybe the best shooter in the ‘23 class in Houston.

‘23 G CJ McCain (Texas City HS)– An under the radar kid who’s gotten better each year. So productive, can score it inside or out. Athletic guard who likes to uses his strength and frame to get downhill to get to his spots. A big time scorer as well.

‘24 F Anson Johnson Jr- (Texas City HS)– Showed some flashes that he is ready to take the next step in game. Caught a few bodies, and is playing above the rim. Runs the floor very hard and is becoming a better rebounder in traffic.

‘24 F Nathan Law- (St. Thomas Episcopal)– Is starting to become more than just a shooter. Attacked the paint well, using crafty finishes to score inside. Always plays with a motor on both ends of the floor. His passing has also improved and he’s still one of the better shooters in his class. Will have a big season for coach Chris Twine.

‘25 PG Montana Wheeler (Houston Christian)– Kept his hot fall going with his play today. Was able to get plenty of paint touches and knocked down several pull-up jumpers over defenders. I keep saying this but, his decision making and feel make him a special PG.

‘25 G Kebari Lewis (Cy Creek HS)– He had a good game vs Houston Christian. Scoring in transition, playing well defensively. The tenacity in which he plays will be a key for Cy Creek, he can be one of the better defenders in the district.

‘25 PG Elijah Black (Katy Jordan HS)- Crafty PG who is taking advantage of his opportunities on these big stages. Scored 16 points and dished out 8 assists in a win vs Legacy School. He’s tough, poised and can really shoot the ball from 3. This team is going to surprise many people this year, don’t sleep!

‘26 F Austin Brown (Lufkin HS)– With his size and shooting ability at 6’6, he is a high level prospect. Understands how to play this game the right way. He helped his team defeat Bush HS & started the game scoring 7 of his team’s first 9 points. Finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

‘25 PG Prince Jones-Bynum (Cinco Ranch HS)– I like when kids take matchups seriously and lock in. He played very well in both games. Tough defender and he got to the rim for easy finishes. Has been impressive this fall, will have a chance to get great matchups during district play. Will be one of the better sophomore guards by the time the season is over.

‘24 PG AJ Bates Jr (Seven Lakes HS)– It’s no secret I think Bates is one of the best juniors in America. Plays to win, is a leader, has unique size and skill for the position, AND he’s extremely productive. He even guarded the 4 & 5 this weekend due to injuries on his team.

‘23 G Shey Eberwein (The Woodlands HS)- Can really shoot the basketball. At 6’5 makes him extremely valuable in spacing the floor at the next level. Another high IQ, high feel guy. Will have a chance to have a very special senior season.

‘23 F Jojo Tugler (Cy Falls HS)- The poster child for development. Every year he’s added and expanded his game. Now he’s leading the break and knocking down 3’s. Has put in time in the weight room, and it’s evident in the way he finishes through defenders for dunks. Elite rebounder and shot blocker, will be in the shirt conversation for Player of the Year in the city of Houston.

‘23 G Keylon Dorsey (Eisenhower HS)– Some MM college basketball program is going to get a very talented player very soon. Dorsey is a PLAYER, he can defend, he can really score it, he’s athletic, has a motor, & is a good teammate. Has only scratched the surface of what he can become.

‘24 PG Qasim Boyd (Dickinson HS)– Applies relentless pressure on opposing guards defensively AND offensively. So quick and uses his change of speed to keep guys on their heels. Has been scoring & facilitating at a good clip this fall.

23 PG Smurf Millender (Dickinson HS)– The South Alabama commit was in his bag Saturday. Hitting pull up 3’s in transition, causing his usual defensive havoc, & getting the other guards on his team easy looks. Has a toughness that can’t be matched, is a natural leader. If everything works out, Dickinson will be VERY HARD to be best come February.

‘23 F Brandon Walker (Lufkin HS)– First things first, I’m jealous that he has a full beard already! Secondly he has a grown man game to go along with his beard. Tough interior scorer who understands how to seal his man & get inside positioning for layups inside. Great rebounder and defensive leader for his team.
