SWAIC Houston Session- Day 1 Standouts

Houston, TX-

The 2023 SWAIC regular season kicked off yesterday and from the opening game you can tell that these kids were locked in and ready to compete at a high level. With only four games being played daily it’s easy for me to get a chance to continue to watch the development of thes teams and players. Here’s some of the performers that got off to a good conference start.

‘23 G Nazar Mahmoud (Spring Creek Academy)– Continues to show tremendous growth in his game. His confidence level is way up and is starting to perform at a high level. Scored a team high 16 points, knocking down three 3’s and grabbing 6 boards. He’s one of the better unsigned senior guards in the state of Texas.

‘23 G Ty Cox (TACA Storm)- Had the gym buzzing with his play yesterday. Made more shots than a bar tender, and made them in a myriad of ways. His strong frame and ability to create off of the bounce makes him one of the most dangerous weapons in the conference. Draws a lot of fouls, and knows how to play through contact. Scored 20 points, grabbed four boards and had 3 steals in 21 minutes.

‘24 G TJ Burch (TACA Storm)– Like his backcourt mate, Cox, Burch dazzled the crowd with his playmaking ability, athleticism, and quickness getting to the rim. He scored 22 points, with an efficient 8-13 from the floor and 6-7 from the charity stripe in 20 minutes of action.

‘23 G Jaylen Pazon (Shaun Dumas Academy)– Another player that keeps impressing every time he steps on the floor. Each time I’ve watched him play, he’s shown me something different in his game. Helped power SDA in their victory over Good Vision. Is always looking to attack the rim and create pressure on the defense. Plays with so much energy and passion, a real competitor. Finished last night’s contest with a team high 18 points.

‘25 PG Christian Jones (PSAT)– Was a wizard on the floor for his team last night. Used his speed & quickness to get paint touches all game. Extremely tough to guard, no one could stay in front of him as he scored 16 points, mostly in the paint with pull up J’s and finishes at the rim. High level ball handler who played with poise down the stretch to close the game out in his team’s win.

‘24 G TK Lawson (PSAT)– Had one of his best games of the season last night. His activity during the 2nd and 3rd quarter sparked his team as he lead the charge with 19 points and 7 rebounds. His energy was infectious and he took the game over attacking the rim and with his activity on the glass.
