BallOut Events HS Shoot Preview 9-29

MORTON RANCH-

The OTR Exposure preseason #1 team in the area is flat out loaded this year. Led by the inside/outside duo of 2020’s 6’10 Eddie Lampkin & 6’2 LJ Cryer, they are looking to make a run to San Antonio for the 6A State Championship. 6’8 senior Marcus Stephens, who’s getting some D1 looks, & 2020 6’1 Westley Sellers are 2 returning starters who give them invaluable experience. They will have a big time infusion of talent in 2019’s 6’4 Trey Elrod (Second Baptist), 6’2 Isaiah Babaloa (Katy HS), 2020 6’5 Adrian Caldwell (Cy Fair HS), & 2021 6’5 Noah Dickey (Charlotte, NC). If this group doesn’t get to the regional final, I will be shocked. Excited about their match ups on Saturday vs Texas Christian at 10AM & Crosby at Noon.

SPRING-

Coming off a 21-12 season, the Spring Lions look forward to a big year led by 2019 guards 5’11 Keionte Cornelius and 6’2 Christyon Eugene. They will be counted on heavily if the Lions want to get back to the playoffs. These 2 senior guards will be both  average around 20 ppg, & will be one of the highest scoring back courts in the city. 2021’s 6’6 Wade Authenreith, & 5’10 Zaydin Walker will look to help carry the load & are bright spots for the future. They take on Second Baptist at 9AM & Heights at NOON.

SECOND BAPTIST

Coming off a TAPPS 5A state championship, Second Baptist looks to reload to defend their throne. Losing Uche Dibiamaka will be a big blow, but his younger brother 2019 6’3Uzo Dibiamaka is back along with 2019 6’6 Miles Goodman. The two seniors will bring their experience and versatility back & with transfer 2019 Cameron Cohn (Westbury Christian HS) adding leadership & clutch shooting, Second Baptist will be back in the mix for another title. They will play Spring at 9AM & 11AM, & Memorial at 2PM.

CROSBY

Going 26-7 last season, 2021 Kaleb Stewart who earned 1st team all district and Bay area newcomer of the year. 2019 Caleb Bernardez, 2021 Anthony Dirden, & 2019 Malachi Roberts all return to a playoff team that will play fast and apply plenty of pressure on defense. With almost 80% of their scoring returning, the Cougars will be a high scoring bunch! They have the Heights at 10AM, Morton Ranch at Noon, & CFLC at 3PM.

CFLC-

Cy Fair learning Center plays one of the toughest schedules in the city. 6’3 2019 Larenz Williams will be the catalyst for this team, the New Orleans guard is a tough, hard nosed defender who will have to lead this young talented team. 2021 Jazil Austin will look to play the batman role and help Williams navigate through this tough schedule. They play at 1pm & Crosby at 3pm.

HEIGHTS

A young, & talented group that boasts 3 sophomore starters, Kolby Williams, Tyler Simon, and PJ Neal. Veterans 2019 G Ulysses Treado & 2020 F Tahaun Ford will add some toughness, and be counted on to play major roles as they will be fun to watch & looking to make a playoff run. Expect this group to be more disciplined than last year now that everyone is a year older & has the Varsity experience under their belt. They take on two tough teams, Crosby at 10AM & Spring at Noon.

LEGACY SCHOOL of SPORT SCIENCES

The new, start up charter school made a big splash by hiring former Wichita State & Yates star, PJ Cousinard. With the success of his Cooz Elite program, it won’t take much time for him to build Legacy in the same way. He’ll have the services of 2020 F Nate Lacewell, a transfer from Emory Weiner, and 2021 Albert Thomas. These two guys will be the building blocks of the program. They will face Memorial at 9AM & Texas Christian at 1PM.

MEMORIAL

The Mustangs will feature two 2020’s Ethan Taylor, & Grayson Buehler, both of whom are getting recruited at the next level. Sophomore Gaston Elie will be counted on to also play a big time role, contributing his high motor on both ends of the floor. This team will be well coached and very disciplined. They take on Legacy at 9AM & Second Baptist at 2PM.

TEXAS CHRISTIAN

Coach Donte Mathis will have one of the biggest front lines in the country. Seven foot sophomore Sam Onu, 6’9 2022 Mo Ngom, & 2019 6’8 Jordan Mays, will make it tough for opponents to score inside. 2020 G Leyder Moreno will provide the scoring punch from the perimeter, as this talented bunch looks to win a TCAL championship. A 9Am showdown with Memorial looms, as well as a 1pm tilt vs Legacy.
