5A Region III & Region II Playoff Previews and Predictions

Here are the 5A Region III, II and 6a Region II Previews & Predictions of today’s games.

Aldine Davis (23-10) vs Klein Forest (19-10)

Klein Collins HS 7PM

Two of the north side’s finest will tip off in a highly contested game of kids who just compete! First year Davis coach Chris Packer has a senior trio, Greg Crawford, Ja’Quan Lewis and Jayshon Cannon, that is athletic and battle tested. If they put together two good halves they will be tough to beat. Many people, including me, thought Klein Forest would have a drop off after making a state run last year. But they continued their winning ways finishing 3rd in district with a young team led by senior Daylan Hamilton, who’s having a banner year. One thing I’m learning is you can never count out a Cary Black coached team.

Davis 69- Klein Forest 62

Shadow Creek (25-3) vs Houston Austin

Butler Field House 6PM

The 1st game of the big double header will see a Shadow Creek team that has state championship aspirations face a Houston Austin team with a budding star in sophomore Kevin Destin. A kid who’s looking to earn some respect in the city. SC is heavily favored as it should be, juniors Ramon Walker & Will Young will set the tone and the rest of the team will follow. I don’t expect this one to be close at all.

Shadow Creek 80- Austin 60

Hightower (28-5) vs Sharpstown (19-10)

Butler Field House 8PM

This game will be more lit than my grandma’s 90th birthday cake! Two VERY talented teams are facing off in this one. Sharpstown features 6’8 Josh Farmer, arguably the most talented player in the city. Brian Perry, Fadi Mott, & Tre’Von Banks are athletic, tough, & won’t be afraid of the big moment. Speaking of big moments, their isn’t a better big game player than Hightower’s super soph Bryce Griggs. He loves the bright lights and HISD paid the electric bill this month so those Butler Field House lights will be shining. Coach Stephen Woods is also relying on Kris O’Neal and Chris Harris to provide senior leadership if they are going to get to San Antonio.

Hightower 79- Sharpstown 70

Madison (18-13) vs Manvel ( 20-13)

Hopson Field House 6PM

Another game of two talented teams that can beat you in a variety of ways! Madison is athletic and they love to mash the gas. Tim Moore Jr, Adam Kanafani, Brian Myles, & Elijah Hill are as a good a front court as you will see. They attack the glass with reckless abandon on both ends of the floor. Manvel counters that with a really good back court of Myles Levine, Azari Woods, Zaire Hayes, & Mason McBride. They have the luxury of having a true big in Shaun Walker, who is a back to the basket guy & a glass eater himself. He will have his hands full tonight.

Manvel 61- Madison 60

Paetow (25-7) vs Willis (15-21)

Spring HS 6:30 PM

Paetow is a little under the radar but the district 19 5A champs have the chance to wake everyone up. Sophomore Trevor Frank is their leader, and they have a man child inside with the Nigerian nightmare 6’9 Charles Chukwu. Coach Micheal Niemi has these guys rolling looking to earn some respect one win at a time. Willis has played one of the tougher schedules in the city, they are battle tested & experienced. However I think they will be over matched in this one.

Paetow 67- Willis 55
